Default I hate to ask.. cam for my combo?

Sorry in advance, I've been on here long enough to know these questions get old ..but questions is what keeps this forum alive right?

I'm looking for a cam to help put me into 11's, has a nice lope, make power up top because this will mainly be a "street performer"(mainly roll racing around here) and make around 6 trips to the track a year. I couldn't care less about drivability, I only drive the car to local meets maybe twice a week. Something not too hard on the internals, as in not hoping to do a rebuild any time soon.

What I have: 3800 stall, 2.73 gears(will stay in the car until I blow the rear, so cam needs to be versatile enough to work with lower gears if I change), and full bolt-ons.

Hopefully this isn't too much trouble but if someone of the cam experts could give me some advice I'd really appreciate it!

Normal stalled autos and roll racing usually don't go hand in hand.

I would recommend a custom grind to get exactly what you want.

If not look into the ms3.

Two great choices would be Texas Speeds 233/239 or their MS3 if you want to take things a little more extreme!

something in the mid 230's i would think. You probably wont break that rear end either racing it on the street. The torquer v3 also comes to mind.

Custom grind for sure. Give a sponsor of your choice a call and tell them what you want.--->

Yea dont plan on breaking the 10 bolt with an auto on the street. I would go ahead and do 3.73s or 4.10s and enjoy it while you have it. I was on my original 125k mile 10 bolt in a stalled/nitrous auto that went consistent mid 11s and I never had a problem.

Id do a 233/239 or something in that range and 3.73s

I would do 342s over 373s. Cheaper, quite, virtually same thing.

Go with something atleast the size of the TSP Torquer 2.. a 232/234. That is a good size for DD and playing around. Of course you could go bigger.

I like the cam along with the ms4 but usually don't recommend It because of this reason. I'd rather a tad smaller cam and better heads with no extra work and have a better setup.

My baby cam 226 car has outran a number of ms4/stg1 head cars.. At a race weight of 3450 it has matched the et by .1 and within 1mph of my old ms4/stg1 car with a race weight of 3200.

Head selection is way, way, more Important than a cam. You dont need a donkey dick cam to go fast. A properly set up mid size cam car will outrun an improperly set up donkey dick cam car any day of the week.

Trex with stg1 243s will get outrun by an ms3 with a nice set of heads that flow better and can gt milled a bit.
Now, trex with flycut and a nice set of heads.... Then you are talking.

Do you have evidence of this?

Heads will stay stock, at least this year. Looking to make my cam decision strictly based on stock heads. Thanks for the replies!

Then go with a donley dick trex or ms4 for what you want.
Are you willing to limit your future head selection on that though?

Experience and track records of various setups.

Heads are what makes a combo when comparing similar cam cars. Hell, the first ls1 in the 10s was way back in 02-03 on a baby 220/22x .588 114 cam iirc.

***Buy the best set of heads your budget allows....
Then base your cam etc off of that.
You want a bad *** setup, heads and converter selection will play a roll more than any other single component.

So since you have no valid response you try to put words In my mouth, original.

That comment was about h/c.

As of now, yes. This is a budget build and this car will never see a super nice set of heads. I can do some research, but if you don't mind me just asking, what head selection am I limited to with a TRex?

Don't need a big cam to get the job done. Common misconception around here. My auto, stock heads car with a Futral Motorsports 228/230 broke a lot of hearts especially the six speed h/c cars
