Default Oil pressure problem on cammed M6

Ok, a buddy of mine has a 99 Z28 with 243 heads, 224/230 cam, stock bottom end. He said that lately he has noticed the oil pressure has dropped some. Does this look normal after running for 30 minutes?

If he revs it does the oil pressure drop down then spike up or does it go straight up drom there. Did he change oil types or weight? I think the old rule is 10psi per 1k rpm so he should be fine. Besides the gauges on these cars aren't known for their accuarcy.

try swapping out the switch, and see if the reading changes.

What kind of pump, and what kind of mileage does it have on it?

replace the sending unit or check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to check accuracy.

I have the same problem with my T/A, and after a while the needle goes down to the red line. I know for sure it has plenty of oil and I also replaced the sending unit and it didn't fix the problem... Please help me too!

Im researching now because my oil gauge in my 408 looks like that at idle. I have only owned the car for a month and it has only been on the road for 3 days. Im scared to drive it with such low pressure.

Any ideas?

in addition to sending units, check the grounds (star washers are your friend) - starting the negative battery post which the system uses for reference values.

cold start its around 35psi on the gauge. once hot its around 17-20psi.
Im going to change the oil and filter to 10w-40 and see what it does.

I just got the car so I dont know much about the motor other than its an iron block 408 stroker...

If the Pump and Gauge are working; warm Idle should be 35psi and Normal Hwy driving 60-70mph it should at 40psi. (5w-30)
