Default LS6 in my WS6?

I'v tried searching and I cannot find a definate answer. I know that some of the later cars got LS6 motors, how would one be able to verify if they have an LS6? The intake has part # 12573572 which after searching here comes up as an LS6 intake. And my car was built in 05/02.

Thanks for any help,

Some of what later cars? F-bodies? I don't think they did, did they? I know the GTO started as an LS1 then switched to whatever LSx... But I thought all 4th gen F-bodies were LS1s...

Interested to hear if there were F-body LS6s...

The later cars didn't come with LS6 engines, but some did come with LS6 blocks. All 01-02 cars had LS6 intake manifolds. Your car should still have LS1 heads, pistons, and cam. As far as seeing if your car was one of the few with the LS6 block, I have no clue how to tell other than referencing the casting numbers on the block.

Yup an easier way to tell is look at the top of the block behind the water pump if you have an ls1 block u will have 2 bullseye casting marks on the corners if it's flat it's an ls6

All 01/02 got the LS6 intake. Some 01/02 F-bodies got the LS6 block. No real gain though with the block. All got Ls1 241 heads and LS1 cam.

My block for my build is an Ls6 and came from an 02 camaro. My 01 SS also came with a LS6 block.

Good to know. My 02 WS6 has the LS6 block. Isn't the LS6 block stronger than the LS1 block?

They didnt, someone put the 243 heads on the car at some point in time. Also fro what its worth the only thing different with the ls6 block is that its supposed to be made of a better alloy, it has bigger casting webbing in the block to make it stronger, oil passages are better and the cylinder bay to bay breathing is supposed to be improved to help it rev high. However it doesnt do anything to increase power.

I thought some later year cars got the LS6 block, but it doesn't really make a difference. If anything, it's not as strong as the LS1 for F/I. There is a bit of info about it in the FAQ section.
