Double roller timing set oil pump spacers.. Help Should I put a small amount of rtv around the oil port on the back of the oil pump to keep the shim aligned with the oil pump port that goes to the block? I'm pretty sure it's aligned now I only put the timing cover and water pump on the oil pan is still off and the gaskets are brand new. Should I do the rtv or not?
NO! you should never use RTV on internal pressurerized oil passages. Pieces of cured RTV can break free and get pushed into critical oil passages blocking flow to the bearings. I've pulled engines apart and found clear evidence of this happening.
I've installed hundreds of oil pumps with the shims with no problems over the years. It will self align.

Its an all too common occurance. Instead of buying a new cam retainer plate, oil pan gasket, or rear cover gasket, people will put silicone on top of the o-rings and destroy their engine without even knowing what they did.
