Ported head inquiry
I have a connection to get a set of 229 cc ported 243 heads. They make around 625 hp with one huge cam on an ls2 and Im hoping to put them in place of my stock heads on my 2000 ls1. My questions are what problems will I run into? Will it be pointless without changing the cam with it? (i know it will help some but will I be leaving alot on the table?) and will my mildy ported LS6 intake also hold me back? I dont want to change the cam since its my daily driver but my buddy with a 04 mach one finally dumped enough money into his POS to get about a half car ahead of me. And I just cant stand for that.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
What size valves in those 243s ??? The ls 2 has a 4" bore to unshroud 2.05
and 2.08 intakes. Most 3.9" bore engines like the 2.0 or 2.02. And since you'll
be in there I'd get an EPS cam in the 236 deg range. Those 2 improvements
will show Mustang boy the correct veiw of your F-body

The heads are actually off of a Nascar K&N East car which are required to run the 2.00 and 1.55 LS6 light wieght valves, they gave me a set of those also
I really want an EPS cam, In the 236 range actually as well. Thats my someday setup. Im just wanting to fly under the radar with this right now. Techically I'm not allowed to mod the car until its paid off (In family loan). So the main question is will the current cam hold me back/should I wait a long time and do this way down the road all at once?

If your current heads are stock 853 or 241s you'll definitely pick up 30-40 hp
@ the tire with your current cam (thats a nice stick), I was just figurin' since
you're already that far in there and newer lobe technology can be more
powerful and quieter. Also the hike in compression should smooth out your
current idle a tad or allow you to sneak another 6-8 degrees of cam timing
while sounding the same (after new tune). I do understand the family ordeal.
No matter what those are some real nice heads to pick up for now or later.

family deal is i have a hot rod third gen that usually stays apart and i currently borrowed the cash from grandpaw to get the ls1. but he told me not to mod it since the hot rod stayed apart so much his mentality is it should start up and run forever and is just not a car guy. Anyway id obviously have the car retuned. i really like the idle as it is now and would like a little more chop to it honestly. The 114 lsa is hindering that gut wrenching crackle i like out of those K&N cars. I wish it wasnt my DD so I could put one of those cams in it. 243/251 .595 lift and 105.75 lsa (CRAZY!!!) I currently have 853 heads on it but I didnt realize there was a compression difference. I was planning a clean up mill on those heads of course and maybe more to get the best compression. Do the 243s have 64 cc chambers and the ls1 heads have 68?
