Lq4 - 370 Questions
Hi I have looked up many Lq4 builds and haven't seen many that are 370 or that are not running boost. I plan to buy a used lq4 in the future and have a few questions. What would be a good cam? What should I replace ? Safe Rev limit of motor? Good junkyard price? and what would be a ball park price, I dont know if I wanna know?
But here are my plans and tell me what you think ? (in depth)
P.S No boost or Nitrous
My Plans 425-500rwhp
Lq4 block bored .30 over - 370
Stock Crank ???
je pistons - flat top (want comp to be 10.5 or 11)
H-beam rods
Cam ??? (wont be dd some where in the operating range of like 2000-5800)
port and polished l92 heads
Fast 102 intake and 102 throttle body
Kooks Lts
bolted up to a 6spd trans and 3.73s or 4.10s
Tune

Plans look good, might even be making more power than you're hoping to honestly. Can't really comment on the cam because there are just so damn many to choose from, if you want an off the shelf grind, that is.
Stock crank will be fine, they can hold a lot of power. Been proven to over 1000 hp actually. For the junkyard price, that depends if you want a longblock or a shortblock. You could probably find a better deal on Craigslist than in a junkyard, and since you're planning on a forged rotating assembly all you really need is a block and crank.
For the ball park price, are you referring to the forged build or back to the junkyard? Forged engine will cost a few grand after machining and labor to put it all together. For all that you listed expect to pay for just the engine, at LEAST 3.5k minimum. I'd go with the 4.10's with the 6 speed, especially since you aren't planning any boost

Thanks yea there are a million cams between off the shelf or custom and I was planning on buying the full engine because I will need the wiring harness and ecu unless theres somewhere I could get those for cheap. I plan on putting this engine in a 70 camaro so I want it have some power to it, more than the mustangs and rice burners around town

Mine is a 370...
However it is lower 9.0 compression as I plan to boost it eventually
LQ4 .030 over
Diamond Pistons
Callies Compstar 6.125 Rods
Stock LQ4 Crank
Clevite bearings
ARP studded Mains
LS3 heads
Custom Eps 230/242 cam (N/A cam)
Fast 102 LSXR intake
Nick Williams 102mm Throttle body
1 7/8 headers
EWP
Underdrive pulley
I will post N/A numbers as soon as I make some pulls..
I really think only being a 370 you really won't see a huge power increase with porting the L92/LS3 heads.... You will be over 450 regarless
As for prices you can get a complete LQ4 long block for around 600-800 dollars...
However you wont need any of the top end stuff except for valve covers, coils and 8 of the rockers...
Call Geoff at EPS and talk to him about a cam...
As for what you need to replace.... Mainly the Rod bolts are most peoples concern with the LS motors but you will address that with the aftermarket rods... and you can spin it 7k easy
Best of luck!
