Default Honing a must with new pistons?

Car has only 70,000 and I currently have it torn down to a short block. I am thinking about pulling that out and putting factory spec bearings and stock size forged pistons back in without honing. Would that be outrageously dumb or doable and only mildly dumb? Anyone done this? Cylinder walls look awesome that is why I have considered this. Thanks in advance.

Maybe you are thinking about boring the block not honing. Whenever you install new rings you have to hone the cylinders to break the glaze off them so the new rings will seat. If not the thing will probably drink oil like Charley Sheene does coke.

You can pick up a hone pretty cheap.

Yes you'll need to hone to the size of the ring/piston combo you chose.

I would definitely get the block honed for a new piston set, its always best for ring seal. Honing the cylinders and working with a fresh surface really cuts down on oil burn.
