Crazy loud tapping noise
Cliff notes- the TA was idling one day and out of nowhere an extremely loud tapping noise coming from under the valve covers towed it home, tore it down never found anything wrong but decided to go ahead and do a heads and cam swap put it together started it found no issues last few days been starting it and letting it idle went for the first drive in it made it about a mile and the same crazy loud tapping noise reappears

Did you ever mess with the oil pickup tube O-ring? There's a thread that was recently resurrected about guys having top end tapping and couldn't find anything obviously wrong. Turned out to be a damaged or incorrect O-ring where the oil pickup tube mounts to the oil pump.

Put a stethoscope or long handled screw driver around where you believe the noise is coming from, seems strange, is a lifter playing up? What grade oil are you using? once the noise starts, does it continue or intermittent. If you turn the engine off & rest it for a few minutes & then start it again, does the noise also start straight away or come on again later.
Check the block with your stethoscope when it's tapping, maybe the start of piston slap...just some ideas to go over.

Started tearing it back down today after work one rocker on the drivers side head was pretty loose but otherwise nothing visibly messed up making me lean towards it being a lifter, how would I know if a bearing went on me of the lifters end up looking ok?

was the bolt tight on that rocker? if not then that could very well be the noise. also check that rocker for missing needle bearings, that may be why it's loose. then move on to the lifters.
