Default LS6 heads and cam question

Hello,

I have a 00 LS1 and am currently in the process of putting together the parts for a cam/head swap. I was given an 02 Ls6 cam and 01 LS6 heads from a buddy that was going to put them in his car and decided not to. I know that the 02 cam is bigger than an 01 LS6 cam and I also know that the heads from an 02 had longer pushrods to go with the smaller base circle on the cam. My question right now is, I should be able to install both of these as long as I make sure my pushrod length is measured right? I know there are more powerful cams out there but you cant beat free. I also got the GM yellow springs out of his new heads but I have been advised to replace those with PAC 1218s because of the solid valves in the 01 heads.

Maybe I should put this another way. Would I be better off getting the 02 hollow and sodium filled valves to put on my 01 heads to keep the valve train as close to original as possible?

The hollow valves are .6mm or .0236" longer to correct lifter preload with the
smaller base circle cam however they are hard to find and were pretty pricey
around $40 each. I found a set of new takeouts for $185 a few months back
and a dude from Rochester,NY....Studderin was sellin' a set also. good luck

I'll make this as simple as possible lol. Get the ls6 hollow valves which arent made anymore and you can use the stock 7.4 pushrods as the length of the valve makes up for it. If you must use standard valves you will need a set of 7.425 pushrods to compensate for the ls6 cam.

I don't think its worth the hassle to locate the valves. Use aftermarket springs and 7425 hardened pushrods. You will be fine. Do not reuse the stock pushrods

You need to raise the rev limiter and also redo shiftpoints if you are an A4 car

This..... that's what I did not just the shift points and rev limiter will need to be changed so you will want a tune. Go ahead and change the chain for ls2 and get a ported oil pump, find some ls7 lifters. When you want to go with a bigger cam on down the road you will have less work to do. I have run a best of 12.74@110 1975 d/a and I should trap higher( tune not just right yet)
