Default ls1 cylinder wall ridge?

forgive me for the noob question. ive never built an ls1, but on old chevy 350's ive built there was a ridge in the top of the piston wall. will there be a ridge in the top of my ls1 as well? if so do i use a ridge reamer, or??? and can i just hone the walls good with a drill and put STD rings back?

if anyone has a link to rebuild guide for ls1's, i would love to see it.

As with any engine, measurements are a must. Using a dial bore guage, check both overall bore diameter as well as cylinder taper. Also, there are several books that have detailed information on LS rebuild procedures.

Good points, but that wasn't the question he asked. He's talking about just getting the pistons out of the bores.

I haven't seen an aluminum LS block that needed ridge reaming to slide the pistons out. Whatever iron/metal they made the sleeves from is pretty tough stuff. In fact, all but a few beaters still had factory cross-hatch showing on the bore surfaces.

I have had to remove the carbon ridge using GM Top End Cleaner on a shop towel, just let it soak into the carbon and it wipes right off.

The LS1 engines are not prone to cylinder wear like the old iron blocks. The rings are low tension and don't wear into to the cylinder liners. You won't need a ridge reamer.
