I didn't force with all of my might, but I did push down kinda of hard since the others gave me the same kind of resistance, sort of. This one wouldn't go in and by the time I realized it, it was far too stuck to remove it.

Sounds like my luck with transmission valves. I've swapped 2 different pressure/reverse valves and ended up having to pull both trannies to finish the job after the valves got stuck in the case bores. Once out and accessible, both were 10 minute fixes...

How do you feel about welding something to the middle of the lifter and using a slide hammer to pull it out? As long as you use MIG and not flux core there won't be much if any spatter. I know it sounds risky but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

I welded a screwdriver to a broken snap ring on a motorcycle fork and it worked perfect. The fork leg was aluminum and the slider was chromed. I had about a 1/4" to get the screwdriver in and welded to the snap ring. It didn't do any damage to the fork leg or slider and I got the snap ring out. Just need a steady hand.

Don't have easy access to a welder and I'd really like to get the heads on ASAP.

Got it! Thank you all that is holy lol. Took a lot of fiddling but I got it out finally. Ended up pushing it out of the bottom with an old pushrod. Not even going to try and re use it. Not worth it...

Can you insert the stock cam? Is the lifter low enough that it will engage the cam lobe? If so, lube up the cam you removed and re-install making sure the base circle faces the stuck lifter. Then rotate the cam to see if the lifter will go back up.

Were you able to inspect the lifter bore for damage? I'd be leery of trying another lifter until the bore is verified good...

I've looked at the bore and felt for any grooves or burrs or any obstructions or anything like that and it came out good. I'm going to be using a dial indicator this week to check the clearance and the old lifter before any lifters go back in. Just to make sure everything is all good.

Did you notice anything about the stuck lifter after you got it out?

I didn't see anything at first but when I looked more into it, I found a score at the twelve oclock position on the bore. I ended up using a real fine sand grit, say 2000, and lightly sanded a small amount at a time. Then I cleaned out the bore, lubed the lifter and bore up and tried again and everything went in fine. Have yet to start it up, but I'm hoping everything goes good.

For future reference, you can use a brake hone to clean up the bores. Just a light pass with machine oil...even solvent or WD40...will do it. It's common practice on iron blocks.
