H/C Install 228R/799s
The only problem I've really ran into so far is that on one of my spark plugs the white outer coating cracked and started to break off. I'm hoping this somehow happened during removal.
I have everything stripped down and ready to go. I'm hoping to have the car running by Tuesday so I can start working on the tune.
I have a few misc questions about the build if anyone wants to help out.
1. For the camshaft install, I have been told covering it in motor oil works great, otherwise I have some assembly lube stuff in my garage. Which would you use?
2. For changing the springs on my new heads, since they are out of the car, can I just set them on the bench with a towel or something underneath and do it right there? I'm just curious if you can hurt the valves somehow by doing it this way.
3. How does everything look? Pistons are pretty black, not sure if that is normal/good/bad. The cylinder walls have a nice cross hatch still.
I've attached a few pictures. (Warning: I took these on my cell phone which has only a 5 megapixel camera)
2. On the table would be the preferred way to do it.
3. Pistons look normal. Make sure you get the head surface of the block very clean. Be patient and take your time.
