As you probably could have figured from the title, one of my lifters fell while doing my cam swap. I used the pen magnet method, and when i pulled the cam out, the intake lifter on the #3 cylinder fell down into the bottom end. I got the oil pan off and retrieved the lifter. I really hate to pull the head just to put ONE SINGLE lifter back in its tray. if anyone has any suggestions on how to get the lifter back into it's bore without removing the head, it will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

 

Cant be done. Pull the head.

Unless the engine is on an engine stand.......

 

If it was on the stand he'd just flip it over and not worry about and type of lifter retainer tools

Your definately pulling the head unless you can find a way to fish the lifter up into the lifter bore.

Why didn't you just get some steel rod to slide in there to hold the lifters up?

 

You can spend days trying,,but you are still gonna end up pulling the head,,,period. If you dont want to pull the head,,you can remove your crankshaft,,that will make it easier from the bottom,,see my point, remove the head and learn/share this lesson.

 

time to go heads/cam and not just cam

 

2 5/16" wooden dowels for $.74ea from lowes would have kept them up.
