Default stock ls6 oil pump vs. ported

im starting a build for my camaro and was wondering what the big differences between the stock and ported ls6 oil pumps are. is there a noticeable increase in oil psi?

I'm not sure about the PSI increase, but the last pump I got with a port job, was a joke really. There is some excess metal where the pick up tube connects to the oil pump and thats the part that gets hacked down. I'm sure it helps FWIW.

ok cuz im doing all of this on a budget and i found a stock pump for a decently lower price and figured i could use the extra money that id spend on a ported one towards something else.

Why not use the LS4 pump? It was designed by GM to flow more oil with more Psi. They are cheap, too.

Look into it. I ordered one for my TT car and I know of others with very high HP cars running them.

I put a used TSP LS6 pump in my car. 50psi on a cold start and it will go from around 43-60psi driving around. Seems to be worth maybe 5psi at the most IMO, not worth it for a street car at all. Maybe if the car was a little more serious I could see some benefits.

There was a very good post a few years back and this pump was not recommended for a basically stock H/C motor.

I would go LS6 pump, and if you can't afford to port it don't worry about it. The pressure developed is determined by the bypass valve, which can be shimmed, but this isn't necessary either.
