What size bolts do I need to get this thing on an engine stand (as in what thread size)?

sounds like you have a pretty stout project combo there. like you said replacing the oil pump is never a bad idea its just cheap insurance a new stock gm pump would be fine as in 01 they switched to the ls6 design which flows more anyway i think a ported one is a little overkill on a stockish motor.

couple other things and again these are optional. 1 is an ls2 timing chain its about 35 bucks at the dealer and double the thickness of the ls1 chain and a direct bolt on plus if you have the oil pump off its right there in front of you.

2. the rod bolt on ls1's particularly ones in 98-00 models (could be 98-99) werent very good and start to fail in the upper 6k rpm range once again optional and most likely you would have any issues but new rod bolts can be had from katech for 200 and then its worry free. ARP makes bolts also at half the price but you must resize the rods if you use the arps while katechs are just bolt on and go.

Thanks redbird. I'll definitely do the timing chain as good measure since it's right there with the pump. I assume the rod bolts aren't TTY bolts or anything, so they could be reused in a future build? I'd hate to drop 200 on bolts that are a 1-time use.

If anyone knows about the bolt sizing for an engine stand into the heads/accessory points, that would be awesome. The engine is still wrapped up with everyone on it. I don't have any tools here yet, so if I could grab bolts while I am out buying some tools that would rock!

the stock bolt can be reused although its not recommended, the katech bolts can be used as many times as you need as they are high quality bolts. the oil pump is under 100 bucks for a stock ls6 pump, timing chain is another 35-40 and the rod bolt are 200. so for 300 bucks you essentially just fool proofed the motor lol

Man I know you are new around here and it's cool. Either use the search function or start your own thread to ask about your question. Try not to get in on someone elses thread.
