Go to the Hybrids and Conversions section of LS1Tech and start there. It would be so much cheaper in the long run to swap a LS1 in your V6's place, than it would for you to try and equal the output of a modified LS1 based car using your V6. If you are hell bent on keeping your V6 then I would try a search on google b/c there are sites out there dedicated to that particular engine.
I did a search on google for V6 conversions and the first site they listed was LS1tech. I read through a few of the listed articles and it seems like you can pick up an LS1/tranny/wiring harness/etc for fairly cheap.

Part of the answer will depend on what your goal is, of course. Do you want to drag and get a certain time? Street only and want more power? Emissions requirements?
Don't rule out the old iron SBC conversion either, it's much easier to tune.

You could always do what I have done and buy a used LS1 F-body. I keep my 6 cylinder as my dependable driver for bad weather and for winter use(I live in Michigan). You can buy a nice 98 camaro for $7k if you shop around. Don't worry about the mileage on it, if you are going to change everything anyways. By the time you have bought a motor, tranny, wiring harness, pcm, etc....and have it installed and running in the 6, I don't think you can beat $7,000. This would depend on how much you pay for labor or how much you value your time for the headaches involved.
