Default how much will a cam help et

Could some of you experts give me an ideal how much a cam would help my ET. Right now I run a 1.70 60ft and a best of a 1/8 @ 8.045. The cost of cam package is about a $1000, by time you by push rods cam, spring and new timing chain and the time to put it in. I would like an ideal on how much it will lower my ET. If everyone would give me some feet back on there ideals would be appreciated

Somewhat depends on your current mods and the cam. But, most sizeable cams can add 30+ HP to an LS1. Most of the time, you also get a much longer powerband to work with. So you have more power and it lasts longer. I think you'd be happy with a cam.

BTW - nice truck.

wow... 4.56:1 gears..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> .....you can go with a monster cam (remember piston-to-valve clearance) and still be streetable. Consider holding off untill you can do heads and headers also. You will get much more out of you time and effert (you have to pull the headers to do heads and pulling the heads makes the cam easier).

I have a "little" TR 224/224 on a 112 LSA with 1.08/1.60 valves and its entirely streetable with the 3.73s.

Your first gear must be almost useless for anything besides smoking the tires (with my "little" 3.73s I had problems when the engine was stock).

But for as my 1st gear being useless on the track I hardly spin any (remember my tires are 30” tall and 13.5 wide) so this should put me back down equal to the camera with 3.73 gears. I am at 5400 rpm @ the end of the 1/8 in third gear. I shift at 5800 rpm. Does this seem about right for as the rpm at the end of the 1/8.
I was thinking about buying the 224/224 112 cam
thanks twsikes
