Default 5.3hp ??

I have a 2004 5.3 out of a escalade I'm putting in a 1970 C10. What kind of HP can I expect to get if I go with a different cam?? 243 heads and a set of good headers. I have original intake. I've read these intakes would be as good or better than the LS1/6 intakes as long as there is no clearance problems in which there should not be. Don't really know which cam to go with in this application. Any suggestions would be apprecited.

Well it should be a 6.0 345hp in the escalade that year im pretty shure. It would have 10.1 compression. The 243 heads would boost it up or you could just mill the 317's that are on it, they flow just as good. Obviously porting and what not would help also. As far as cam goes I would just have one spec'd for your application. You wouldnt have clearance problems with that intake I used to have a 69 K20. This all depends on how much you want to spend, also. You probably can buy a blower fairly cheap these days and make some big power with out touching it internally. Check out the hybrid section on this site and also performancetrucks.net for info on your kinda swap.

I believe the 6.0 was an option in the Escalade. Plenty came with the 5.3.

Generally in cars guys seem to easily get 300+ rwhp with a stock 5.3, ls1/6 intake and slightly bigger cam than stock. With headers and an aggressive cam, I wouldn't think 350+ would be out of the question.

I believe 2004 was the last year the 5.3 was standard in the escalade. It was strictly 6.0 from there on out. It currently has the 706 heads but the 243s are fairly plentiful here in H-town.

Every 5.3 I've seen is cast "5.3" on the back of the block. Probably the same for 6.0.

This one says 4.8/5.3 on it. It is the 5.3 because it has the cupped pistons.

If you're patient I have some 60cc Patriot Heads that were on my 5.3, and they're already loaded with dual gold springs. 7.4 cromolies, and rockers.... I need to clean up. They're about 2 yrs old.

Man I'm doing a frame off restore here so yes I have plenty of time. PM me a price and maybe a suggestion on a cam that would go with those heads. Also I'm not sure if I should go with a different intake or not.

I'd like to know what you're planning on the backside as far as rear gearing and trans/stall. There's no use loading up the top end if you don't have the supporting back end.
If you're working on the frame restore, it's better to get those taken care of w/o the bed on.

Food for thought. The time that I have on my sig is pre-head swap, is with the stock heads, with the same make push rods, rockers, and dual gold springs on a ECSB. Save yourself some money and stick with the stock tb/intake. Simple CAI will suffice. It's all in the tune.

I will send you a PM within a few days.

I have access to the transmission that was with this motor in the escalade. I have 3.73 gears in the rearend. Should I be thinking about some sort of stall for the 4l60E. Thanks

I'm assuming stock 60E? And I think 3000-3200 stall would be sufficient. Unless anyone else has another suggestion.

Any thoughts about boring it to 3.090" and using LS1/LS6 pistons? You would need to have it rebalanced but if your careful in your pistons selection, you can come real close to the 5.3 piston weight.

Naa thats a little further than I would like to go. Not doing anything more than rings and bearings on the block. I also have to switch to the F-body oil pan because the truck will be on air ride and ride hieght will be to low for the original oil pan.
