Springs keep breaking I got the g5x3 cam specs 234 242 .600/.610 112 lsa, and i have patriots duel gold valve springs .650 max lift. The flat parts on the bottom of the springs keep breaking around 1cm long. Can i still drive around the car like that? And anyone have any idea why they break? Thats in advance |
can you take and post pics of the breakage... would help us know if you are ok to drive or not |
1- i wouldn't suggest driving around on ANY kind of broken spring 2- do you know the installed height, distance to coil bind, correct seats, ect? are you running a 5/16 pr? assuming the springs are installed correctly it could be pr deflection |
outkast how do i go about finding out if it a 5/16pr? |

this may be a really stupid question, but are you sure you are using the correct spring retainers? |
post pics of broken springs on the head so we can see and not guess |
visually looking at a broken spring tells you jack shit. if you pull the springs off the locks and valve stems can tell you a story though (if you know what your looking for) |

Usually if your breaking spring tips its due to not enough rate for your application. How many RPM's are you spinning the engine? usuing stock valves or larger, what material? Who's rocker arms do you have? Without knowing the rest I cannot say for sure but like I said usually broken tips is due to not enough spring. You can drive like that but be aware those tips are going to go somewhere, so if you dont know where they are eventually they will make it to the oil pump. |
