Default HP Upgrade

So, in my '02 WS6 A4, I'm about done with the appearance mods I wanted to do on the car, now I think it's time to do some modding on the motor. Currently I dd the car, but after I get my taxes that will be changing. I don't plan on taking it to the track, I just want to add some hp to it. It has stock 3.23 gears, I'm probably going to keep the stock heads for now, because I don't want to go just really nuts with it. I'm thinking a descent stall, cam, and a good tune. I want it to basically idle and and appear as stock, I guess a small "sleeper" is what I"m going for. I'm not to much on the engine mod aspect of things, have been doing some reading in this section, and would like to hear some input as to some thoughts on the direction I'm wanting to go....

If you want it to be sleeper I would go with a 224R 115 LSA cam with a 3200 stall. That setup should have a pretty smooth idle and be easy to drive but will pick up some noticeable usable power for a street car.

I don't understand the verbage of "lift" since I'm unfamiliar with engine mods. What exactly does that mean, and what is the difference between that one and the one posted above?
