Bottom end rebuild question
My question is when I ordered the bearings and rings there was some misunderstanding between myself and the seller, I was wanting 5.3 bearings and rings and somehow I was sent stuff for a 6.0. When I realized the mistake I asked the seller about it he said the bearings were the same for 6.0 and 5.3's just send back the rings for correct replacements. Ok with that done I put the mains in and without torquing just a good snugging of the caps there just seems to me to be a good bit of drag when rotating the crank, new bearings and old bearings looked the same and had same tolerances, before I go any further with my reassembly can anybody tell me if I have the right bearings and if these motors are just that tight? I used oil and moly assembly lube and these are all stock sized bearings no oversizing.
work fine for stock to mild rebuilds. Try torquing all the mains up to stress the
whole assembly in running form and see if that makes the crank turn more
freely. Without getting into bore guaging clearances....usually just a simple
crank snout twist of the wrist is what you want. If it still feels too tight, one
trick to loosen it would be to get a FINE scotch-brite pad and gently rub each
bearing shell to remove the dull finish and thoroughly clean the bearing B4
re-lubing and install. This will open the clearances a few tenths of a thou.
