Default air puMp

do i need my air pump? when i first start my car it makes a whinning sound and i took out the fuse and it seems to even run better

technically by law yes but practically no you don't need it. you do need to do a few things if you choose to delete the air pump... Search air pump delete

Default At a minimum...

If the pump is not going to run for at least a few days, remove the hose from the pump, otherwise the hose fills with water (from condensation) and shorts out the pump the next time it runs.

The A.I.R. pump only runs and operates when the engine is first started. It puts fresh air into the exhaust. It does not make the engine run better or worse. It has no effect on the engine's performance. When the engine is cold, it adds extra air to the exhaust to lean out the raw fuel in the exhaust which lowers emissions.

As it is an electric motor, it's operation is monitored by the PCM. If you remove it, you'll get a code unless you tune it out.
