What cam would you recommend? My brother bought a 01' SS 6 speed and wants the best cam for a cam only car. The mods are ls6 intake, ported tb, free mods, longtubes and good flowing catback, ftp lid, drag radials, and need the cam and tune to go with it. Im a lt1 guy, so dont know much about ls1's. Appreciate any input. Thanks

i run a ms4 and will tell you it would be pretty good for a cam only car, listen there is way more to it then just throwing in a big cam, way more, you need every max effort part, you will for sure need things like a fast setup, injectors,a good dual set up,1 7/8th headers,chris1313, you will for sure need a rear end in a m6 car there is just no way around that. also to get the most out of the ms4 i would do heads, fly cut etc. honest you dont need to fly cut but there are other reasons with fly cutting and running heads.honest cam only is not a budget way of going fast, 90 percent of ms cammed cars are not set up right

and ms4 in the 10s yeah but that would have to be a bare bones race car.imo i would talk with pat g, i can tell you right now a ms4 just thrown in there will be a dog, it takes alot of work to get those cars to run. trust me bigger isnt better, now if he plans to do the other mods needed to run a big cam by all means go for it,

4.10-4.56 gear and 3800-4000 stall, it's all in the setup alot of DD's get these cams with low stall and 3.42 and wonder why they don't run, you can have a very streetable fast car if the tunners got a clue and car is setup properly.

Well at this point in time we was looking to stay stock heads and a ls6 intake. What's thoughts on a ms3? It will end up with a 9" and 4.11s at some point in the near future. For the mods listed no one has any suggestions on what would work good? Not looking for a track only setup, but something that will be good for low 12 or faster with traction.

ms3 isnt bad but like i said before , out of the 40000000 people that have ms cams about 25 are using them the right way and are getting the most out of them, honest i have seen a ls6 cam only car blow the doors off a ms3 cammed car, the ls6 cammed car was set up perfect , just call eps and talk to those guys .i really think you honestly need to figure out what you wanna do with this car. if you want a fast street car on a budget then going with a smaller cam is what i would do.just put it this way say a ms3 will get you around 380 ish or a lil more pending on what dyno, and that will put your powerband way in the upper range, you low end will suck on stock gears.a smaller cam will get you just about the same hp and you will have way more usable power for the street. you dont want all top end in a street car, low mid range and torque is what you want.

Forget the MS3 and MS4 they are too big for the intended use. A cam with a bit more power under the curve would be faster in an M6. Auto cars can get away with more cam because they can run higher RPM stalls which help driveability. I would run a 228R, 228/232 or 230/230 on XE-R lobes. You could also go with an EPS 226/230. I would look into 4.10 gears as these cars should have come from the factory this way. My cousin had a 6.0 with patriot heads running the MS3 and the power didn't come on until 3500rpms...it wasn't bad to drive but even with 4.10s it wasn't the best daily driver.
