Default Will 918 springs hold this cam?

I have a cam coming that is a 227/227 .599/.599 111LSA on XE-R lobes. I also have a set of 918 springs and titanium retainers. I know that this cam would really be pushing it for 918s, and might not even be possible to run them. But, would they last 5000 miles or so? Or would they float immediately and not work at all? I will get a set of 987s, but I want to use what I have right now if I can. Any opinions?

You're right at the edge, but I would use them for a short time.

Opinion? Do a more stout spring first. Breaking one could bend you over a barrel and changing the back few can be a real pain in the buttocks. I'd just do it once personally.

XE-R 226 0.585
XE-R 228 0.588

Where are you getting 0.599 from?

What springs would everyone recommend? 987s or 978s?

There is no way that is a xe-r cam. The exhaust on a x-er cam has a higher lift on the exhaust side and lower on the intake. So it's not a x-er. Plus a x-er isn't a single pattern cam so ur source is wrong.

Do some checking. Please don't let this turn into one of the reasons why I feel that buying a used cam is a bad idea.

It's not that the cam isn't good u just have to know what ur buying or else it might do u good then again u might of been ripped. I have bought used cams in the past and they were what they said they were. Also because I bought it from someone I knew. Good Luck though. And I would buy some springs that can handle that cam instead of breaking one.

xe-r is a lobe first and foremost. Comp grinds whatever you want. The most popular examples are 224/224 and 228/228 on this board.

Quickws6, I think you'd be pushing the limit of the 26918's with those cam specs. Perhaps you should get that cam on a cam doctor before you install it?
