Angry Cam position sensor, still having problems....

About a week ago my tach died and my SES light came on P0343 cam sensor high output, and my car was hard as hell to start. Today I pulled the intake and installed the new cam position sensor and took it for a test run, it ran great no codes etc. I parked it took a shower and went back out and it was having trouble starting and the SES light came back on, ran the code same thing P0343. Anyone have a clue whats going on or what to check??

Is there any physical damage to the sensor or metal shavings? Also check the connector and connector pins for proper tension also check for a chaffed or broken wire.

The old sensor looked fine no damage, the connector snapped in firm, I don't know what else to look for, I think there is somehing fishy going on with my tach failing and this problem happening at the same time, I need a good electrical detective to help me out..........

It's not just the connector but the individual pins inside the connector that need to be tested for proper retention. If you have any means to clear the code do so then try wiggling the harness from the cmp back and see if the code resets.

You can't get to the sensor itself with the intake on the car, so thereis no way I can wiggle it, Does someone know what color wires go to the ecm and a testing procedure for this sensor. I can barely get to work, the car is hard as hell to start and is getting old real quick

At the CMP the wires are brown and white-CMP signal, pink black-low reference signal, red-12V reference signal.

i remember being told that the tach signal is related to the cam position sensor..i'm sorry but i can't recall the details of the relationship but from what i remember hearing the fact that you are having tach issues has something to do with your problem.

Your code only has ckp cmp and pcm involved. The tach signal is generated by the PCM after the PCM interperates the CMP signal.

So if I'm tracking with you, my PCM is not getting a signal from the cam sensor?

It is possible that the CMP is sending and incorrect signal or no signal. You need a scanner to watch the CMP signal.

Update, the diagnosis of the GM tech at the dealership is that my PCM is fried. I asked him how he came to this conclusion, he said the computer is not letting itself read the signal from the cam position sensor he "thinks". I think he is a dumbass who cost me $150 for nothing, further more I cant get in touch with Sean at MMT who did my programming to discuss this with him I need some help guys.........

If the dealer changes the PCM and it doesn't fix the problem, will they refund your money?

Theres no way in hell I'm paying for a new PCM+labor then have to pay to get it reprogrammed and dyno tuned, and even if it didn't solve my problem they would still charge me for it.......

Got your PM, I am getting P0343 high output cam position sensor, I can't believe I am having this much trouble out of this thing, I am starting to think it may be internal, by that I mean whatever triggers the sensor itself but I have have no idea what it is reading off of. I don't remeber seeing anything that would trigger it on the back of the cam. Its driving me nuts SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!
