crack cap rods!!!
can you resize crack cap rods? i have read that you can resize the stock crack cap connecting rods but it will never be correct. Can i just have my machine shop resize the rods so i can run undersized bearings or do i need to buy new rods?

I just ran into the same problem so I just bought scat i-beams for $310 from texas speed. By the time I put rod bolts in the stock rods I was better off buying them because they had the bolts and were already resized for them.

resizing cracked cap rods
If you spun the rod bearings, the rods are most likely junk especially if they are blue.
Cracked cap rods are not resized by the conventional method of grinding the parting lines to close up the vertical size then honing to spec. With a cracked cap rod you need bearings made over size so the rod bore can be honed to fit the over sized outside diameter bearing shells. In the case of the LS engines, that oversize is only .002" which is most likely going to be insufficient for a spun bearing rod housing bore to clean up. The .002" over sized bearings leave enough material to hone out of a rod housing bore to get a round bore (now .002" larger than a stock factory rod for use with these special bearings) to correct for distortion after installation of new rod bolts or for rods that are slightly out of round.

cool thanks for the tips guys,,, looks like im going with the scat I beams, good price point. do i need new pistons for these rods or can i reuse my old pistons? if i cant reuse my old pistons i mind as well bore it .030" over instead of just doing the hone.

I believe you can get them in stock length if you call them, but I went ahead and got a cheep forged piston too. Mahle's with rings and pins for $580
*6.125 rod length is for aftermarket pistons. 6.098?(I think thats right) is for the stock pistons

The only thing with Clevites.002" oversized OD bearings is I don't believe they make them in any ID except standard ,,,,,,,,,,,,unless someone knows different but I do know that Federal Mogule has the oversized 1's in all the standard undersizes
