You saying the guide from cylinder #3 ended up in cylinder #8?
Just #3 is broken, 8 has alot of metal in it. Look at the pics..pretty much it.

You also should not put the spring back together, its what everyone does naturally. Keep the parts seperate from each other, pushing them back together can hinder being able to find out what actually caused the spring to break during inspection.

I take it Mike called ya all up..

They are boxed up and ready to go to him tomorrow as soon as UPS knocks on my door.

The noise happened at idle and we shut it down immediately, so hopefully you guys have enough to work with. Could be possible it broke on one of the pulls..not really too sure.

If just the Spring failed and the Guide didnt shatter then there would be no damage.

Bronze Guide prob wouldnt be as brittle..but they wear fast.

Unfortunately everything is a trade off. Hope it all goes OK for the motor. Would really like it if you report back the findings of TEA and PAC once they have had a chance to examine the parts. Sounds like you are in good hands though.

Well the Heads have arrived to TEA in Ohio, awaiting word on them from the guys there.

The 408 might be coming out of the MCSS..I've been on the fence with replacing the Piston that is there..I did a close inspection on it and there is a large piece of metal imbedded in it and I have yet to get it to come out..so I'm not chancing that deciding to come loose and fly around the Cylinder. That and the top of the Piston is nicked up pretty bad. That and since the Guide shattered there is metal in the Cylinders so it's prob in the Oil too..there were fragments in the top of the Head.

So that means one new Piston and it matched weight for balancing, new Bearings, new Rings, new Cometic Head Gaskets, new LS3 Intake Rocker, bottom-end back together assembled professionally like it was, and ofcourse me doing the work of pull-out and install.

I've started sourcing parts and prices for them..that way while TEA is inspecting the Heads and doing their assessment there I have a list ready to go on what needs to be replaced after that Guide went through the Cylinders.

For you guys that are reading this here is an update..

TEA has got the Heads and are looking at them. So far one will be replaced, still looking at the other one. I'm awaiting a call back on that one.

I managed to talk to Mike there and told him about the Piston, he agreed that it needed to be replaced. So I'm being compensated at the moment a new Piston, new pair of Cometic Head Gaskets, the Head Bolts, new LS3 Intake Rocker, and no doubt in my mind the Heads will be coming back 100% run ready with new parts. I'm just doing the labor of taking the Engine out and replacing the parts.

Props to Mike on this one and understanding my side of it, aswell as standing behind the warranty and replacing the broken/damaged parts affected by the Spring breaking.

I've already gotten complements on their work with this case and they will have some future customers by what they have done with me here.

So, is Pac compensating you, or is TEA?

PAC is looking at the spring, Mike at TEA is who I have been talking to about replacing my parts. He asked me to get him a list of what I need.

Good, glad to see a company step up to the plate when one of their parts fails and compensating for damage caused, not just their part.

I know things happen, but there has to be some kind of accountability by companies.

I think TEA will be getting a set of heads to work on from me in the future.

**** happens anywhere..having an open mind about it and being cool will get you where you need to go.

Mike is cool about it..I'm not pestering them, letting them work and when he is ready to call I'll have all his info.

I'd be curious to know what their analysis is of the spring failure. Let us know if you hear back from PAC.

I think it broke on a Dyno pull..first was strong, second lost power, that is when we shut down and looked at everything. Started it up to check again and that is when the noise was heard.

Just goes to show you can get a bad one of anything. No matter how hard you try.
