Default Yella Terra Installation

Hi all,

I searched but couldn't find much on my issue.

I bought a set of Yella 6645 rockers New in the box from a fellow forum member. These were unopened.
So I just tried to mock things up on the bench. The stock bolts do not go through the rocker shafts on 2 pairs. The rest are fine.
There were no bolts in the kit.
What I did read when searching is that bolts do come in the kit.

Anyone seen this?
Seems to be a quality control problem from old Yella.

Ron

How would I tell the build date? There is nothing on the packaging.
Nothing on the rockers.

The instructions that came with are universal.
I need an 8.0mm drill to fix the 2 problem units.

I sent Yella an email. Wonder if they will answer.

BTW, on the ones that the stock bolts fit fine on, thread engagement in the head is actually slightly better than stock. I have AFR heads so there is no bottom to the holes.

Responded on CF. Check wipe. Have seen this before as well, not an issue.

It shouldn't be too much of an issue to enlarge the effected holes on a drill press.

I will need either an 8mm or a O index drill. .315-.316".
I really only need to open them uo .0015".

Now the question of bad parts and build dates has come up....not what I needed to hear.

I had some questions about Yellas, and was able to locate an email address for Yella online through a search. Maybe a question to Yella could verify that the stock LS1 bolts are sufficient. They may be able to provide a set of the correct bolts, too.
Somewhere, I have my instructions. I'm headed out right now, but can scan the instructions later if you like.

On the ones the stock bolts fit, the thread engagement is just fine. So I think the stock bolts are fine.
I did send them an email.
The instructions with mine seemed generic. Not LS specific. So if yours are different, it would be interesting to see them. No rush, I'm just in the mock up stage.
Thanks!

Ron, my instructions were not LS1 specific, either. They were printed on a yellow paper and included directions to determine whether or not shims were to be used.
I think we're talking about the same directions.
I'll post them anyway, tommorrow.

I found the instructions confusing and didn't use them. LS1howto is not correct either. Set the wipe with the shims and the preload with the pushrods. On the AFR's, I needed a pretty good shim to center the wipe pattern.

Although the process is somewhat different with stud mount rockers on a rat motor, I have done a lot of geometry setups so I know what to look for.
I just wish the issue of these things busting wouldn't have come up.

Neither the seller or I know when this set was made. So we will discuss with YT. Other than that, it's full steam ahead!

One question though, the AFR upgraded springs are going to be above 400lbs over the nose with my .640 lift cam. I have heard....haven't seen it in writing from YT, that these rockers don't like that. I dunno, that seems really odd.

Shoot a PM to Tony Mamo and discuss with him. I know he runs these rockers a lot and recommended them to me as well. A lot of guys seem to run them with higher than 400 open force, but the manufacturing date throws a real clinker in the system. I would contact Jim directly at YT since he is familiar with the manufacturing problem. I provided his link on CF if you missed it.

Hi Ron,

No quality issue with the bolts. They all come with bolts. The factory bolts have a slightly larger shank on the neck and will be tight on fitment .

With all 6645s you get Pedestals, bolts, and shims in the kit

We have 8mm bolts at Meridian MS contact Doug Smith

Double check they haven't been a repack, also post up some pics of the rockers( or PM me ) so I can identify them

Jim

Sure,

Here are some pics. There was no top to the box. But the inside tray was sealed. I opened it.
Got ya on the bolts. There simply wasn't any in here.

Are you Jim from YT?

The fellow I bought these from is rather embarrased, he knew nothing of possible issues. We spoke on the phone, very nice guy. Whoever sold to him, probably removed the top of the box.

Thanks.

My first set I bought(new) probably 7 yrs ago didn't have any bolts, I just installed them in February 2011 with the stock bolts without any issues, but I did have one of the rockers break about 2 months ago. I replaced all the rockers (3 wks ago)with a new set of YT 6645's and they did come with allen head bolts.
