Default This is what I am thinking....

Let me know what you think.

I have my car tore down, for headers, ory, gmmg...etc. I also pulled the tranny out, to find my stock clutch looks like ****. I am thinking while its down why not do heads and a cam. I am looking at the AI 241 205 castings. I am waiting on a reply back from them to see adout doing a complete CNC on the whole head. I am looking at about 11.1 compresion with a 60cc combustion chamber. The cam I am looking at is a Comp LSR 281LR HR13

This is a weekend toy car not a DD or a drag car. I am looking for a nice wide powerband and not every bit of the power being made up top.

I may be way off and the valves may be smaking the pistons with this cam...so let me know.

by the looks of the cam size and having the heads done you may be way too close for comfort. If I were you I would contact texas-speed and ask the experts there.

also if you go back to the comp cams website they have a selection to chat online with one of their reps, they might be able to give you great advise as well

This is a great cam for the description you provided. Its makes awesome power, and on the pushing the edge of streetability. Any bigger and youll start giving up torque in the mid range and drivabilty will decrease quickly. The heads are also a great idea, see my sig quote.

Good deal that was the response I was looking for. Obviously I will be checking piston to valve clearence. Hoping I get a response from AI tomorrow. You think I should drop down to next cam size? I am not knocking TSP but I have seen what AI can do to the LT1 heads and the are awesome. I will be going with them, they know there stuff on the cams as well I am sure.

Going a size down when your on the fence is ALWAYS a safe bet. I always error small instead of too big. Ive suffered with a cam thats too big before and it sucks, although this cam isnt massive by any means.

In my personal vehicle I went even smaller. I had a 6.0L with CNC LS3 heads and all the extras. And I ran the Comp 269LR (219@ .050) and it works great! Tons of low and mid range, fairly choppy idle, easy to tune, pulls to 6300-6500 ish.

Ive installed this cam about 7 times now. Its a great goto cam, especially if you have really good heads, you dont need a huge cam to make lots of power. The 231/239 obviously would make more power in the 6000-6800 range. But most people 99% of the time are not at WOT, and they enjoy driving better when then drop down a size or two.

Why not call up AI and have them make you a custom cam for your application when they do the heads?
