Default maybe a stupid question....

so this is what the outside of my cam retainer plate (thurst plate) looks like. visibly and physically worn in grooves. now im guessing this renders the plate useless. i tried i forum search aswell as consulting my books and the only reference for replacement had to do with the orange oil lifter galley seal on the inside of the plate.....

$45 at gm to get a new one... thinking its worth while just figured id pose the question.

I can see the pic just fine but its pretty crappy so its hard to see what youre talkin about.

I take your talking about the shiny spot right around the cam snout hole?

Did you have a thrust bearing in there?

If you do get a new one from GM it will have countersunk holes. Make sure you also get the new style bolts because a few people have cracked the cam plate torquing them down with the old bolts.

Use a timing chain set with a torrington bearing on the back to prevent this issue.

yes the shiny circle around the main hole where the camshaft sits is the wear and scoring that im talking about. this was damage from the factory setup/timing set.

ive ordered a new plate with the new counter sunk screws. the new timing set does have the torrington bearing on the back. just wanted to put this up incase others were questioning aswell as i couldnt find anything to reference this kind of damage.
