There's a relevant point in 3rdCoast's post, believe it or not. Be sure you install the cam gear appropriate for your PCM and Cam Position Sensor.

Which PCM and CPS are you running, and is the CPS mounted on the rear of the engine or the front timing cover?

It's a 03 truck PCM and the cps is in the rear of the block. The motor is a 5.3 from an 04 escalade if that helps any.

In that case the cam gear isn't part of the PCM input path, just make sure you get the right bolt pattern for the cam you're using (3-bolt or 1-bolt) and make sure the cam is set up for the rear-mounted CPS you're running.

That seems to be a good cam for the 5.3L with the right heads and exhaust, I think you'll be very happy.

Which valve springs are you going to use?

How about you, sir?
After his last brain-fart I considered clicking him to Ignore, but honestly his attempts to post tech info are just too funny to pass up. Kind of like glancing over at the big train wreck as you pass by.

As for helping him, I'm not sure it's possible.

I tuned in because I've got a 98 LS going in a 73 vega wagon. plan to throw an LS6 cam at it also. The gen III engine has the 3 bolt cam as apposed to the 1 bolt, right? What's the deal with the LS 2 timing chain? I'm sure that's a noob Q so if you could just point me to a link to a thread, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Dan

From my reading it's agreed that the ls2 cam is stronger/better.
