I'm putting some 243's with LS9 head gaskets on my LQ4. I thought I saw in some pictures a while back where someone copper sprayed the gaskets before installing. I know I've done this with MLS gaskets in the past but didn't know the stance in the LS community when installing head gaskets.

So what procedure do you use when installing Head Gaskets.

If it has the thin black film on it you are good to go, if It's raw metal use the copper spray....I've reused mls head gaskets before too, just cleaned all of the black coating off with paint thinner, then sprayed them with copper spray and had no issues

 

I got the LS9 gaskets they don't have black stuff all around them just black around the ports and cylinders. So I guess what are people doing with the LS9 gaskets? Just bolting them on?

 

Go ahead and spray them... The metal seals compression, but not fluid
