Default Almost there!!.. Pulled trigger on TQ V3 cam. Right choice?

Hey guys, I've been doing research for the past month or 2 on Cam only setups for when Tax season hits And well..... i just purchased The torquer V3 from Texas speed and performance! (231/234 .643/.598 111 lsa). Along with pushrods,Dual springs, retainers, ect...
** This is my 1st time having an upgraded Cam period. And i want to know if you guys think i made the right choice OR your opinions in general.

-My car is a 1998' Camaro with 99' LS1 motor (853 casting), 6speed, Bolt on's, 4.10 gears.
-This is not my Daily driver, I only drive my car on the weekends. I Dont go to the track either. Simply want it to be a fun street car, and Fast for when I go out racing with buddies! OH and ofcoarse i wanted it to sound good
-Also wanted the benefit of more Horsepower IF i were to purchase better Heads from TSP

I sure hope she runs great and sounds beastly!

Let me know what you guys think

Seen many good results with the v3 and I personally have looked into it some myself for when I change my current cam. Keep us posted on some numbers once it's installed and tuned and then get you some good heads to compliment it!

Same here. i was originally going to go with the Torquer v2 BUT i saw comparisons and the V3 was that much better with Torque on the lower RPM's and better power up top aswell. Just an overall Upgrade from the v2!
only issue that alot of people have against it is the higher lift. But i went with the Dual springs anyways and i dont drive here as much.

I will post up dyno #'s soon!
NOTE: i am 5k feet above sea level so my #'s will not be so hott like other cam only cars

I have it with 2.5 ls6 heads. Just get a good tuner or it will buck like a bull. If I could do it over again I'd have went bigger but I still like the cam a lot. And after that install I'm not changing it again anytime soon...working on 4th gens sucks! haha. TSP told me I should change springs every 4-5 years regardless of mileage.

oh nice, i like your dyno #'s too! Yeah its going to be tunned by a very reputable tuner around my area. I cant wait..
I've heard that you have to check them every 10k-15k miles or so? Of coarse i dont drive my car all that often so 4-5 years would also make sense

I've always liked the V3, rode in a car with one a bunch of times. Never have been a fan of the V2 though, that's why I never recommend it. I rode in a Futral cammed car that had a cam that was almost identical to the V2s specs and it didn't impress me. Coincidence? I think not.

Probably all & all one of my favorite LS1 camshafts we sell. Still has a little better p/v than some of the larger ones giving you more choices on heads down the line, and makes great all around power. I actually prefer it to the T v2 a little bit from my testing on the engine dyno, but both camshafts are very popular!!

How well would this cam perform with stock casting heads? Just curious. Love the V3 though, great choice!

Anyone ever tried this cam duration 231/234 on LSL/LXL lobes instead? Would have basically the same powerband and would be a bit easier on the valvetrain with newer lobe technology. I wonder what power differences this would make in a side by side comparison..lowering the intake lift and increasing the exhaust lift.

Specs would come out to 231/234 .617/.612 111+2

*and for the record, not that impressed with the tqv2 in my car either

Glad to hear a lot of you like it! I really do appreciate the input guys. The install and tune is going to happen on spring break. About a week from today. I will post numbers. I'm not expecting anything crazy since i am at a higher elevation. Either way I cannot wait

Is the V3 considered a max effort cam or somewhere in between?

Also, why does it have such a high lift on the intake side compared to the exhaust side?

No just don't be getting on it at all lol. My buddy installed his own cam and drove right at 2 hours to have it tuned and it was perfectly fine aside from when he actually hit stop and go traffic on the highway haha!

Like i said, the TQV3 is a good size cam to daily drive and have fun with. It should definitely shine with a good set of heads!
