Default P-to-V contact:

Well, this is all new to me. A valve seat let go in my car a few months back. I finally got around to pulling the heads and saw that there was piston/valve contact. The cylinder walls still look great. Is this anything to fuss over? I can see a visible pit from the valve. New Heads/Cam package and go?!?

How feasible would it be to pull the LS1 engine, have it bored/stroked to a 383? How much would something like this cost if I were to go down that road? Would having a reputable shop go through this and stroke it be cheaper than just buying a new short block?

Thanks for the input,
Chris

If you want to stroke it, I say get a 6.0 block, and put the ls1 in the garage for a rainy day. Once you get the block, all costs will be the same as stroking the ls1, and with the iron block, you have a lot of meat in the cylinders for plenty of over bores if it ever wears out. With the ls1, one good hone job and its time for new sleeves if it let's loose in the future.

Check out Texas speed's website, they have good package deals on 370 or 408 short blocks which might be cheaper in the long run by the time you buy the stroker kit and have the block machined.
