What determines the PTV issues?
What determines the PTV issues? I have read many post about checking PTV clearence, with mnay saying only a fool doesnt check.
I have also seen many post where people simply swap out cams in their heads and go.
Checking PTV clearence doesnt seem to be tough, but buying solid lifters etc to do it....geez
So what is the realization here? Is there certain cam specs to be worried and some not to be worried? Is it the lift/duration/LSA or all?

Main factors are gonna be Piston Height, Valve lift and duration which are dictated by the camshaft. There are a ton of guys who throw off the shelf cams in these cars and never check PTV clearance, and never have any problems,,,, that is because there has been R&D on that particular cam in a stock engine,, when You change Pistons, heads, chambersize, ETC that particular cam may no longer work in an application. If you have done any work to the engine, or if there is even a hint of doubt, check it, Its not hard to do, May save your engine..
For the most part You don't really have to worry about PTV clearance in a LS1 until You're cam dur @ .050" lift are around 238deg and higher . Lift does'nt generally translate to PTV clearance issues ,,,,,,having said that in no way should this be taken as all Omnipotent word in other words You should check it and/or at the very least turn the engine around for 2 revolutions using a socket and a ratchet on the vibration dampener center holding bolt and if it does'nt stop turning You "should" be fine .
