Lifter stuck in bore?
Lifter stuck in bore? Went racing at memphis a few weeks ago and made about 3 passes with no engine problems at all. Stopped and let my car cool down for about 30 mins or so while we watched a few more races and got a bite to eat. Jumped back in the car and started up fine with no abnormal engine sounds, but of course soon as i get off of the property it starts ticking.
After further inspection with removing the heads It seems theres nothing wrong with the lifter. It moves up and down in the bore but, after trying to pull it out well it wont come up and out. The cam lobe is destroyed. It has Ls7 style lifters in it but the person who had the car before me went to orileys and just got whatever lifters and put in them. I compared a lifter to my friends GM ls7 lifter and they are pretty different.
Needless to say the motor and tranny are coming out today to get torn down.
Ill try to get some pics up of what decided to off itself.

I had to have an LS1 replaced for the same reason. Needle bearings came out of the rocker arm and then the ball on the bottom of the lifter broke in half so it was D shaped. Wound up tearing up the bore and trashed the block. Check your rocker arms.
got to look at the motor. a chunk of the lifter roller failed. the bottom of the lifter expanded and it pushed itself to the bottom of the bore and stopped. so im thinking the lifter bore is fine. but i guess this shows dont use cheap lifters on an engine build. ill try to get some pics up after i get a balancer puller and dig into it some more. my rockers were fine no failure there. and also barely any metal in the oil. of course the car didnt run very long after words before it was shutdown.

I've had something similar happen. The "pin" thru the roller of the lifter dislodged. Took out cam and lifter bore in block.
You may have to knock the lifter down if it won't come out the top.

thats what im going to do. the pin is still through the case and the retaining clips are also still there. so im just going to pull the cam and push it through. just waiting on a crank puller right now.

It replaces all the tiny weak needle bearings in your rockers. All you need is a vice or drill press. 140 from tsp. Btw there is a machine shop in your town. They do alot of Gwatney's and Kkp's machine work.
yeah im going to john at motor pro. he seems to do really good work and is decent on price. though im wondering what its going to cost to fix up the lifter bore...
