Default 02 ls1 questions

im about to get a hold of an 02 5.7 L vet motor that had some piston slap and they just bought a new crate engine for the car. I am now planning on building it for my 66 nova for next year. just trying to figure out exactly what to do.

first question, what can a stock motor handle horsepower wise?

there is also no accessories or intake on it so i was thinking I would carb it more for expense wise but do the msd box for it and ill get a hold of a wiring harness. or would it be more cost effective to find a used fuel injection system for it?

and last its going to be a twin turbo set up. im shooting for about 600 horse. I dont know anything about these motors really so what would be the most cost effective set up using stock heads and crank. block will be .30 over most likely (depending on how bad the cylinders are) and then I will do a piston that matches and cam to top it off. all to run on pump gas! thanks guys!

It is not adviseable to bore 5.7L .30 over. This is not an old school SBC. \Stock bore 3.898
usual honing to 3.903/3.905 is all you get.
With boost a fuel injection is preferable for street. Just get a used LS6 intake. It is also preferable to run 10lbs boost or less on stock pistons (meth injected)

ok cool thanks. I decided it would be best to run forged piston and rods but everything else stock with an ls6 intake. i would like the fuel injection but the money is the only issue. but i will most likely go with it anyway. thanks for the info

on a block built for boost you should be able to hit 6 with a single, unless your set on twins, was piston slap the only issue with the motor you got?

i was planning on twins more for the look under the hood but run the same boost. even if its de-tuned it would look much nicer with 2 but I might keep it one because of my alternator. anyway yea the only problem with the motor was the customer complained of a tick on start up when cold and then it would go away. upon inspection found excessive cylinder wear. and the customer got a new engine and I got this one. thats why I dont have an intake or accessories for the motor. went on the new long block
