I run my car on a road course several weekends a year, and the motor is often between 3500 and 6500 rpm for 20 minutes at a time. I am swapping heads/cam soon, and thinking it may be time to upgrade the rod bolts. What did you pay to have ARP rod bolts installed, and what should I look to pay a shop to do this?

 

It's pretty easy to swap Rod bolts. I did it on an engine stand in less than 1 hr total, taking my time and TQ'ing everything right...

Just pull them, ONE AT A TIME, slide the ARP bolt in, TQ, pull back, TQ, pull back, and re-TQ for the final pass. Do that with each bolt...Simple

haven't looked under my car yet, but can you do it with the engine in?

 

On an F-body, the front K-member has to be dropped in order to get the pan off (with the engine in the car, of course). This (obviously) means that the engine needs to be supported from the top while you work.

As far as labor is concerned, I think LG charged me ~$400.

 

Would it be possible to remove the intake, raise and support the engine, remove pan and do it?

 

i think that may be possible, but i think you would have to drop the trans as well. possibly remove the radiator/ac condensor so taht you could move it far enough forward to raise the motor the couple inches it needs to drop the trans
