Pros of the ls1

Huge interchange of aluminum and iron of 5.3 5.7 6.0 6.2 blocks and motors.
Way better ignition system
Massive aftermarket support
Better intake (does the lt1 even have an option other than a custom or lt4 yet??)
Better heads
$ for $ the ls1 is gonna deliver more

The torque can be overlooked. A stock ls vs lt, the ls actually has more torque, and once you start modifying all this kinda stuff changes.

And wtf cooling advantage does the lt1 have???

Pound for pound the LS1 is going to perform better. If you are dead set on the LT1 just get an old school SBC and fuel inject it, you wont have reverse cooling or optispark to deal with. LT1s sound better thats about the only perk.

LS1 PROS:

Handles nos better but i won't use nos.

How do you guys figure the LS1 is much better choice?

Also i want to stroke the LT1 to a 454.
why not just do a 572ci lt1?

It sounds like you want to do an LT1 so just go ahead and do it.

Well first i have an old lt1 that broke down here's what happened i think

The cylinder heads became deformed because the air filter was so dirty they couldnt handle all the build up of air and oil coming through the air filter and the throttle body

so i tried replacing the air tube with a cold air intake and i think the extra power blew out the cylinder heads and they crashed through valley pan into the crank.

then the crank spun hard and threw the pistons up to hard to cause a misfire

well what im gonna try to see is i think the camshaft that needs to adjusted it's going through the intake valves right? so im gonna try to wiggle it around and fit it through the valves i guess this is what me and my dad came up with the mechanic told us this is the problem with the heads.

i mean not the lt1 the 3800

OP (that's you Transmission Perform), I'll try not to sound condescending here but allow me to offer you some real world advice:

Your questions and ideas tell us that you are inexperienced in (at least) these cars. Perhaps you're a youngster just getting into this wonderful world of motorsports.

You're in luck! Today's generation has the tremendous advantage of internet forums like this one. You can learn from those more experienced than you and get some guidance in the right direction.

My advice: Forget about converting a V6 car to a V8, it's a ton of work and money and certainly not for a new guy.

Take your six grand and find a nice 1999 or newer Camaro or Firebird with a V8. Decide on a color and options you want and take your time, they're out there. Don't get something that's been hacked up that'll need all kinds of work.

are you confused on the motors that were used in these cars?

there is a reason the LT1 got replaced.

the LT1 was dropped for the LS1 in 98. its the newer engine that is in camaros that look

like mine if you didnt know. i dont know who told you the lt1 was better but they are mis-informed
