Default 4.8 chevy

Ok I have a 4.8 chevy that a few cylinders are bleeding down into the block. I have built about 100 SBC motors but this is the first GenIII Ive tore into. The rings and cylinders look great so how are they leaking down? Can it be a head gasket? It had the old style gasket not the multilayer. Thanks..

Any ideas? I read another post like this and it was not the rings but the guy never posted the fix...
