Default Slack in pistons

I pulled a customers 6.0 apart to do heads and a cam, I noticed that I can see the rings with the piston in the holes. I can also rock all of them. Is this normal for a 2002 6.0? I've never noticed this in another build, now I'm kind of Leary. What do you guys think?

There supposed to be tight and the piston ring should not come visible at the deck, engine wouldn't run if it did and would at the least burn up the valves

if that motor has been like that for 30,xxx-200,xxx miles id just put the stock heads and cam back on/in it because that poor motor is a man... but yeah the stock pistons are suppose to be tight and forged pistons have alittle rock to them bit not hand moveable

Usually you can rock the piston and see some of the top ring, it's completely normal. This is because the pistons are barrel shaped. The largest OD is below the rings, so that's where the tightest piston-wall clearance is. Above and below this, you will see much larger clearances.

Actually on every LS piston I've measured new or used the largest diameter was about 1/2" or so above the bottom of the skirt and the pin side usually measures between .025"- .050" smaller. All the ring lands all the way around are smaller than the skirt so if You're not familiar with this it will appear as tho the pistons are worn out . They could be , so the only way to know is to remove and measure .
