Exclamation Valvetrain PROs needed!!! PLEASE this is gotta be somthing new in the LS1tech forums

ok guys heres the story i just had my LS1 heads port and polished , i just got them back i installed everything back the correct way torqued everything the way its supposed to be including lifer pre-load, all the other lifters are fine and rockers where torqued at 22lbs, the problem is that one rocker is loose cylinder 4 exhaust side made a nasty ticking sound i guess i didnt notice it had play when i torqued it down not sure.. when i started her up for the first time it sounded ok was a little noisy but not bad sounded pretty normal but i revvd it up a bit and it started ticking alot..so i checked the rocker and it was loose, pushrod is streight but the only thing i did notice is it seems like that same exhaust spring doesnt have a shim like the others do..so can anyone tell me or confirm maybe thats why the rocker doesnt have any tension from pushrod(or lifter) or valve(or spring)??? please help..

Can you move the spring at all without too much force?

First, stop running the car. It looks like they left out the valve spring seat and it will tear apart the aluminum head if you continue to run the motor.

Second, did they touch the valves or the seats? Find out from the shop exactly what was done with the valves and seats.

Third, examine that rocker carefully for any differences from the others (lost bearings).

Fourth, bring that cylinder to zero lash (TDC on the firing stroke). Can you lift the rocker tip and make it "tick" "tick" by hand? To do this, don't use a lot of force as it may depress the lifter plunger, you only need to feel for looseness.

1. I agree!
2. Yes they did they ported and replaced valve guides and seals, speaking of i checked that same spring this morning and inside it had piece of the new valve seal the little springy part ripped off ill post pics after work.
3.Rocker is fine i compared with others as well i installed on other cylinder and was solid..
4. I tried that and yes i can wiggle it with my hand it literllay has no tension but the rocker is toqued on!

If preload was checked, then how is the rocker loose?

lay a straight edge across the valves to make sure that one is not bent and hanging.
Pull that pushrod and roll it to see if its bent

pull a couple rockers off and lay a metal straightedge across the valve tips, if it is bent one will sit lower than the others

If you pulled a swallowed off (the small spring and viton material) then that shop messed something up and you need to find another shop to fix it. Those retainers look like they don't belong. Like old small block chevy stuff.

well thanks for the reply guys but it turns out my valve is either stuck or bent and the shop is saying the reason this happen is because of the guides not having swirls in it for oil to pass through too lube?? but theyre going to fix it for free but i have to do the labor what bothers me is that we cant find the right guides for these heads... so i found some with the specs he wanted and custom fitted them so im completely lost right now and broke now..........

The place you took them to are complete idiots and should be run out of town. There are so many shops that do not have a clue it is scary. The stock guides do not have the groove for oil retention. That is not your problem. The dumbass who worked on them it. You better find another shop. It would be worth the money.
