Kerosene and a brush, then in the tight places use a tooth brush.....I'd go ahead and tear it down that way you are sure it is clean

yeah its looking like thats going to be the best route. but what about the oil passages. seems like there is no good way to get those clean.

really didn't want to have to take it somewhere to get bearings put in it.

Well you could try putting Seafoam in the oil passages and then blowing them out with compressed air. Then after it is installed and running Seafoam it and change the oil a couple of times.

That or another old trick is to put a pint upto a quart of atf in with the oil, run it for a little while, then drain and change the oil....but if its bad enough for you to sorry about, you'll have to wonder if and where the chunks that broke loose went. Dont want to put the motor in and have to pull it and rebuild because oil wasn't getting everywhere it should

If you have a gun shop....maybe even Walmart has a gun cleaning kit with the long handle gun barrel cleaner and some small peices of rags to clean all the ports out....just Mark all your parts as you tear it down and make sure you put it back together the same way. Pick up a good tub of prelube and tub some on all bearing surfaces.

Start now and it should be back together tomorrow!
