Default short block rebuild gurus inside.

I'm rebuilding my LS1. I sprayed a 100 shot dry on the stock lower end. I now have a problem with a knock in the upper shortblock. My very experienced speedshop guy said that I blew a ring from detonation. My modifications are a comp cam 224/.581/112lsa, headers, lid, and SSRA. On their dyno I was putting down 394rwhp before the addition of NOS. My speedshop guy said that the injectors couldn't handle the extra 100 shot on top of the 394rwhp that I already had.

So my question is what's a good forged piston? I'm trying to save some money that's why I'm not going with the works, ie. forged crank and rods. I know a guy that's selling Ross forged pistons and rings in different configurations for $625. Are these good pistons and is this a good price. I was planning on just getting stock dimension replacement forged pistons. Do a hone job, check the bearings. This speedshop will do the work for me for about a $1000. I'm trying to stay under $2000 to get the shortblock redone.

Can I get domed pistons instead to raise the compression? Will a domed piston work with my cam. What kind of power increase would I get. Previously I had 394rwhp.

I need someone to list a good piston with the part number for stock and domed in their favorite brand.

Any help is much appreciated.

P.S. I've got Bosch 36lb injectors on the way.
P.S.S. I tried getting the dealership to fix the motor under warranty. I put it back to stock except for the headers but they wouldn't do it. In fact they voided my powertrain warranty.

Sorry so long.

You answered most of youe own questions. Ross and Diamond sell good pistons. There are better out there, but those two are the primary suppliers.

Thanks for the reply. With my set up can I get a domed piston?

You don't want a domed piston. Most pistons will already be a few thousandths out of the deck.

If you want compression, stick with a flat top piston with valve reliefs. I think the Diamond reliefs are 6cc. Get your chambers welded and redone to the correct volume for your application if you want to do it right.

Good for them If you broke it you should pay to fix it.

You can use a Diamond #11500, tihs will fit on your stock rods and requires a 3.905 bore. If you broke a ring you will want to hone the block for sure. I have a set of these ready to ship, $645 with rings. If you need them let me know.

Thanks
