Default Cam me

Ok guys so I have been reading the stickies but I just can't seem to make sense of enough of the information to make a correct decision on a cam choice. I am going to be picking up a 5.3 tomorrow and am going to be putting it in my '72 Nova, looking at putting a Muncie 4 speed m-21 behind it as well. I would like to put a lopey cam in the motor while it's out of the car anyways, but my question is what will be a cam that I can use that will give me a decent lopey idle but I won't have to worry about ptv or any other clearance issues? I was looking at something like a 228r or something in that area of motor manners, but I don't know if that is something that realistically can work for the motor. I plan on using the car as a weekend cruiser type to go to car shows in or drive down PCH in or use if my camaro is down for a weekend or two. Hopefully you get the picture haha

In my reading I saw guys that apparently had bought cams that were too big and that we're running into valve clearance problems. I plan on eventually building more of the motor up as time goes on, throwing heads and an intake on it will be coming later down the road. I'd like to eventually be around the 400 rwhp range maybe more. If more information is needed feel free to ask as I would likke to get as much information as I can.

Thanks in advance for the help

For decent street manners in a 5.3, I'd say a 224/228 or the 228R and go with a 112 LSA for a lil more lope. Anything larger you'll probably kill some low end torque.

What rear axle ratio you going to use ?

Just my .02

In my TA, I went smaller on the cam with more lift. Did not loose any HP up top but gained tons of torque down low. Every combination is different.

It's a heavy bitch lol. Looking up on google curb weight is around 3200? Im not too sure the exact weight of it however.
Rear gears I'll probably run 4.11's or 3.73's.

With the 228r or 224/228 will I need to worry about valve clearance or anything along the lines of that?

Looking at vids on YouTube of course trying to just hear what I like I came across this video,

I guess my biggest question is at what point will I start to have clearance issues with the valves and will have to do work to the heads to make the cam work? Would a cam setup like this one work for my application? I am going to put a 4 speed stick behind it.

Forgive me for asking again predator-z but with the 4* advance what does that necessarily do? Like I said I'm a complete newb when it comes to how understanding cam behaviors according to their specs. I can build a motor but when it comes to cam selection I know next to nothing.

The advance in the grind is to tailor the valve events to where I want them to perform nicely in the rpm range I set on the cam.
