Default Spark knock
I have a 2002 Camaro SS. I've noticed the engine will have a bit of spark knock when first started, lasts for about a minute. It will also do it at some other random times while idling. The car only has 22000KM and the engine runs strong and smooth. I've heard this noise from some other vehicles with the LS1. Any suggestions what this might be? Thanks!

Lower the timing or get better fuel.

Could be a bad knock sensor...got any engine trouble codes? (check engine light)

Are you sure it is not piston slap or lifter noise...?

it does this just sitting idling warming up or while ur driving it? need more info

Just Idling, mostly when cold. defently sounds like spark knock. I know 3 other people with LS1's in thier cars and they do it too...?

No trouble codes but I thought there was a TSB from GM about the knock sensors being bad from corrosion??

It's piston slap. Very common for LS1 when cold. It does sound like spark knock, but it isn't.

yes its piston slap high mileage ls cars are notorious for this.......the KS's could be picking it up and think its knock so they are pulling timing......is the car tuned? usually they have cold knock tables in the pcm's to try and help that issue
