I have a 4k converter. There is no "off idle". I could have clarified. The entire driving range including 6k+ shifts felt stronger and pulled harder. Milling a 241 .025 should put compression about equal to a 243/799 head. The number crunchers can correct me if that estimation is too far off.

I have a 3600 converter as well, the instant response at extreme light throttle during normal day to day driving is what I was referring to. The very second the blade cracks the car is much snappier.

My converter needs 35-40% throttle to hit 3600rpm from a stop, so there are plenty of times in town when I'm not beating on it the car operates at 2000-2500rpm.

It is a great platform for P+P work. Food for thought.
im on a stock 98 LS1... i have the awsome 853 or what ever casting it is head.... lol i know... they suck hard lol
with a polish job, wouldnt the 799s flow just as good if not better then stock untouched 243 heads? was wondering. of course, with the LS6 valves, probalby alittle more power could be had over stock 799s due to lighter valve event? would i benefit more with 799 heads if i couldnt get 243s?

Nice... I just put on 799 heads, comp 918 springs, trickflow 7.425" pushrods, TSP 228R, LS6 Intake, FLP LT's, SLP Lid, P&P'd TB & MAF... This is on my 2000 SS M6. IT definitely feels much stronger but I'm not going to smash on it till I get a tune. I'm going to have to go with a Frost tune temporarily before I get my nitrous build complete then obviously I'll go Dyno.. After the Frost tune I'm hoping for around 420ish...

I personally installed a set of 243s I'm my 98 camaro, and later put an aluminum 5.3 with 799s on it and I must say the 799 heads where a better overall casting as far as QC...I thought it was goin to be the other way around, but to my suprise I did a lot more clean up work for casting slag and parting lines compared to the 799s. But I'm sure it could of just as easily been the other way around just my personal experience.

Also the comp 918s get a bad rap sometimes but I have had good luck with them, one set already had a couple thousand miles and some track passes and when tested they were in spec so I used them...I think comp has cured their metallurgy issues.
