383 or 376
i have a 92 z28 and i just bought an complete ls1 motor and tranny with everthing and i was wondering should i stroke it or go for a lsx 376. I was wondering could i use the wirering and things i need off the ls1 to install the lsx or will i need new everything. can some one give me an estimate on hp and costs, im going to try to stay under 10 grand but want some thing nice for a show/street car.

i was going to stroke the ls1 to a 383 or just buy the lsx376 proformance block im not a racer so 450hp- 500hp would be good enough i just wants to know which would be faster or if they are pushing the same numbers which is cheaper. And can i use the ls1 wires and most the general assembly to go on the block either way i was going with the newsest fast intake and throttle. tu

I'd just sell the ls1 and pick up a 6.0. Bore it to 4.065 and get your 376 that way.
Reason I say this is because you can use the stock crank and rods. This will save you money over the 383 and avoid the huge price tag of the GM crate engine. Also, if the machine shop gets into the ls1 and the cylinders won't clean up with a .005 hone, your back to square 1 anyways with a junk block.

Some will argue, most will agree...now a days with the abundance of 6.0's hitting the junk yards and prices coming down, doing anything to an ls1 over heads and cam is a thing of the past.
Imo, forging or stroking an ls1 is a waste and a risk. The only advantage the ls1 has over the lq engines is weight.

yup thats good advice. either way 450HP will be had quite easy from a stock LS1, 383, or 376 with the right H/C/I setup. i would just go the route that does not brake the bank.
as far as the harness im not sure if the LSX blocks have all the same sensor locations as the GM blocks. if they do than you should be able to use the harness no problem.
