Default 5.3, LS1 or 6.0 ????

OK I'm having trouble trying to decide what to do. I just accuired a 98 Z, it has a rod hammering in the stock LS1. I'm trying to decide if I should rebuild it or get a 5.3 or 6.0 and swap all the LS1 stuff on to it. So what im asking is what would be the pros and cons in all cases? If I were to get a 6.0 I imagine it would be an lq4, and I dont want to buy pistons. So would the dished piston hurt power over the LS1 being fixed. Also what would I be looking at with a 5.3? And any other advice would also appericated such as things that may have to change....pushrods, headgaskets, if any etc...

What are your goals for the car? Forced induction, nitrous, heads & cam... hp level you want to be at? From what I've been reading, the advantages of getting either a 5.3 or LQ4 is that they handle boost better than an LS1. They are heavier seeing that they have an iron block, but they are also stronger.

Not going to be forced induction. I really just want to get it running cheap as possiable but I don't want to go down in power. Been looking around and I think it may be going up in power just by using a 6.0 block and rotatiing assembly.

For getting the same or more power, I would go with the 6.0. Probably would end up being more budget friendly, but will also have more cube to play with.

Why not get an LQ9? More compression and should be just a cheap as the 4.

If I could find a lq9 as cheap I definatly would go that route.

Jake, do you know if there are downsides to the 5.3? If so what kind of a loss would I be looking at ie: 10 hp? I think a lq4 is going to be my best bet though.

I'm thinking that while I'm inside the engine I might do a small cam just because. I would like to not have to buy a stall though. I think a 224 doesn't necessilary need a stall? Also would I have to upgrade valve springs with this cam? Am I right on this?

Alot of my problem is im not sure if I'm going to keep this car after it is fixed.

Thanks for the input guys.
