Default Valve float??? What to do.

I am having some kind of problem after a recent cam install. Maybe it's valve float, I don't know, never had that before so I'm not sure what it is like. Here's what is happening.

Third gear starting at 3k rpm I go to full throttle, when it gets just past 5k the engine falls off drastically but does not die. I think I actually hear a chshhhhhhh sound (sounds like a metallic air release, if that makes sense). Some times it doesn't fall off all that bad, others, it will not get past that rpm. It doesn't seem to be the same everytime.

I am running the crane dual springs, comp pro-mags, comp 'r' lifters, and the FM11 cam.

Before the cam swap I had the same springs and lifters. The last cam actually had more lift than the new one.

What I've tried;

1. Pulley swap, thinking my underdrive pulley was bad...not it.
2. Checked for rocker to valve spring clearance.....no problem.
3. Tried the preload everywhere from twenty thou to zero.

I hear a few rumors about the comp 'r' lifters not working well with aggressive ramp rates but I can't figure out why that would be.

So, I'm at a loss here, what should I do?

I think they were installed in Sept. (before I bought the car). I would have to guess 6k maybe.

And I didn't have any problems with the last cam at .638 lift, it rev'd like mad.
